The University Hospital Basel (USB) is known for excellence in healthcare, research and teaching, as well as its focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous innovation. The USB was faced with the challenge of modernising its personal badge solution in a future-proof manner. The need for a change due to the life cycle of a central chip required a new, comprehensive solution to be developed. H+S was commissioned to create a detailed functional specification that takes into account both the visual identification and the functionality of the integrated chip for system identification.

In the first step, we analysed the actual situation, recorded all dependencies on relevant processes and peripheral systems and evaluated the life cycle of the components involved. In doing so, we took into account the high requirements of the University Hospital Basel for digital transformation and a modern workplace. Based on this, we determined the requirements for the new solution and worked out the optimal procedure for the next steps. With our tried and tested H+S methodology, which pursues a systematic and holistic approach, the relevant specifications for the subsequent evaluation phase were precisely defined. The final delivery object was presented in the project steering committee and in the responsible specialist committees of the University Hospital Basel and successfully accepted. The project results enable the USB to implement a sustainable personal badge solution that meets the high requirements for safety, functionality and modernity and continues to drive the hospital's digital transformation forward. This provides a stable basis for the project's next steps.
